# Create your first agent

> Create, test, and publish an agent from the console.

Before you begin, check your [workspace access and AI connections](/getting-started/prerequisites).

  <Step title="Create an agent">
    Open **Agents** and select **Create Agent**. Choose **From a prompt** for a single set of instructions, or **Build a workflow** to start from a template or blank canvas.

  <Step title="Define one useful task">
    Give the agent a name and describe its role, what it should accomplish, and what it should do when it cannot help. Replace template content with your own information.

    Repeat the details for confirmation.
    Explain that the team will confirm availability; do not promise a booking.

  <Step title="Check the voice and tools">
    Review the agent's model and voice settings. Use workspace defaults or choose agent-specific settings. Add a tool only if your task needs an external action, such as looking up availability.

  <Step title="Test a conversation">
    Save your draft and start a **Web Call** in the tester. Allow microphone access. Try the expected conversation, an unexpected question, and an interruption. End the call and review its transcript and results.

  <Step title="Publish when ready">
    Use **Publish** when your draft behaves as intended. Check the published version before connecting a phone number or your application. Saving a draft alone does not update production API calls.
