# Test and publish

> Control when draft changes become available to production API calls.

  Outbound calling is temporarily disabled. Use the [browser tester](/getting-started/quickstart) or [incoming calls](/integrations/telephony/inbound) to test your agent. The reference below does not enable outbound calling.

You need Editor access or above to edit, test, and publish an agent.

## Save and test a draft

Save your changes before testing. Use the editor's browser tester to check the greeting, conversation paths, interruption behavior, tools, and collected data. For phone tests, use a destination you control and check the selected telephony configuration.

Test outbound API routes can place real calls. The word **test** selects the agent version; it does not simulate telephony or eliminate provider charges.

## Publish the version you verified

Select **Publish** after reviewing the draft. Resolve any validation messages before trying again. Publishing makes the selected definition available to production API requests.

A production request fails when an agent has no published definition. Saving further changes keeps those edits in a draft until you publish again.

## Check a release

Run one controlled call through the same channel your users will use. Check the conversation result and your connected service. If you need to restore earlier behavior, review the agent's version history and test the restored draft before publishing it.
